Removal (Sequoia & Tundra 4.7L)

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 10 other vehicles, including the 2002 Toyota Tundra, 2002 Toyota Tacoma, 2002 Toyota Sienna, 2002 Toyota Sequoia, and 2002 Toyota Land Cruiser. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Intake manifold must be removed for access to knock sensors. Knock sensors are located below intake manifold, on cylinder block. See Figure. Intake manifold consists of an upper and lower intake manifold.
  2. Release fuel pressure. See FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE  under FUEL SYSTEMS. Remove throttle body cover located on top of throttle body. Remove air intake hose with intake air connector located between throttle body and air cleaner assembly.
  3. Manufacturer recommends removing throttle body from intake manifold with hoses attached and electrical connectors installed. Drain cooling system if necessary to disconnect coolant hoses for access to intake manifold. Disconnect accelerator cable from throttle body. Remove throttle body bolts/nuts, throttle body and gasket from intake manifold.
    4. CAUTION: Use care when disconnecting fuel inlet hose from fuel rail, as some residual fuel pressure may still exist in the fuel system.
  4. Place shop towel below fuel rail and fuel pulsation damper. See Figure. Fuel pulsation damper may also be referred to as fuel pressure pulsation damper. Remove fuel pulsation damper with gaskets, and disconnect fuel inlet hose from fuel rail. See Figure. Disconnect fuel return hose from pipe at end of intake manifold.
  5. Note location of electrical connectors on fuel injectors for installation reference. Disconnect electrical connectors at fuel injectors. Disconnect necessary electrical connectors, vacuum hoses, PCV hose, ground straps and wiring clamps for removal of intake manifold. Remove bolts and disconnect engine wiring harness protector from rear of intake manifold and ground straps at rear of cylinder heads.
  6. Disconnect engine wiring harness from top of intake manifold. See Figure. Remove throttle body cover bracket from intake manifold.
  7. Remove bolts/nuts that secure lower section of intake manifold to cylinder heads. Remove intake manifold with fuel injectors and fuel rails as an assembly. Remove gaskets for intake manifold. Disconnect electrical connectors at knock sensors. Using Socket (SST 09816-30010), remove knock sensor(s) from cylinder block.
