Inspection Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Toyota Sequoia. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Is DTC Still Output?

Check DTC, see Step 1) e or  f.

    1. NO  : No problem.
    2. YES  : Go to step  2.
  2. Check Output Value Of The Yaw Rate Sensor.

In case of using the TOYOTA hand-held tester:

    Preparation  :

    1. Remove the 2 bolts and yaw rate sensor assembly with connector still connected. See Fig 1.
    2. Connect the TOYOTA hand-held tester to the DLC3.
    3. Turn the ignition switch ON and push the TOYOTA hand-held tester main switch ON.
    4. Select the DATALIST mode on the TOYOTA hand-held tester.

Check  : That the yaw rate value of the yaw rate sensor displayed on the TOYOTA hand-held tester is changing: Place the yaw rate sensor vertically to the ground and turn the sensor pivoted on its center.

OK  : yaw rate value must be changing.

In case of not using the TOYOTA hand-held tester:

    Preparation  :

    1. Remove the 2 bolts and yaw rate sensor assembly with connector still connected. See Fig 1.
    2. Turn the ignition switch ON.
    3. Measure voltage between terminals 3 and 2, 1 and 2 of the yaw rate sensor with connector still connector. See Fig 2.

    OK  : See Fig 3.

NOTE: When replacing the yaw rate sensor, perform the zero point calibration. See step  6 under PRE-CHECK.
    1. NG  : Replace yaw rate sensor assembly.
    2. OK  : Go to step  3.
  3. Check Voltage Between Terminals VYS And GND Of Skid Control ECU.

Preparation  : Remove the Skid Control ECU with connector still connected.

    Check  :

    1. Turn the ignition switch ON.
    2. Measure voltage between terminals (VYS(27) and GND(15, 46) of skid control ECU. See Fig 4.

    OK  : Voltage: 4.5-5.5 V

NOTE: When replacing the ECU, perform the zero point calibration. See step  6 under PRE-CHECK.
    1. OK  : Check and replace skid control ECU.
    2. NG  : Go to step  4.
  4. Check For Open And Short Circuit In Harness And Connector Between Yaw Rate Sensor And Skid Control ECU. See  HOW TO USE THE DIAGNOSTIC CHART AND INSPECTION PROCEDURE  .
    1. NG  : Repair or replace harness or connector.
    2. NOTE: When replacing the ECU, perform the zero point calibration. See step  6 under PRE-CHECK.
    3. OK  : Check and replace skid control ECU.
