Inspection Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Toyota Sequoia. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: Start the inspection from step  1 in case of using the TOYOTA hand-held tester and start from step  2 in case of not using TOYOTA hand-held tester.
  1. Check Output Value Of Steering The Speed Sensor. 

    Preparation  :

    1. Connect the TOYOTA hand-held tester to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch ON and push the TOYOTA hand-held tester main switch ON.
    3. Select the DATALIST mode on the TOYOTA hand-held tester.

    Check  : That the steering wheel turning angle value of the steering angle sensor displayed on the TOYOTA hand-held tester is appropriate when turning the steering wheel.

    OK  : steering wheel turning angle value must be appropriate.

    1. OK  : Go to step  4.
    2. NG  : Go to step  2.
  2. Check The Installation Condition Of Steering Angle Sensor  .
      NOTE: When replacing the steering angle sensor, perform the zero point calibration. See step  6 under PRE-CHECK.
    1. NG  : Repair or replace TILT STEERING COLUMN .
    2. OK  : Go to step  3.
  3. Check For Open And Short Circuit In Harness And Connector Between Brake Fluid Level Warning Switch And Translate ECU  . Check for open and short circuit in harness and connector between steering angle sensor, translate ECU and skid control ECU. See HOW TO USE THE DIAGNOSTIC CHART AND INSPECTION PROCEDURE .
    1. NG  : Repair or replace harness or connector.
    2. OK  : Go to step  4.
  4. Calibrate the steering angle sensor.  PRE-CHECK  , step 6  .
    1. NG  : Replace TILT STEERING COLUMN .
      NOTE: When replacing the steering angle sensor, perform the zero point calibration. See step  6 under PRE-CHECK.
    2. OK  : Go to step  5.
  5. Is DTC Still Output? 

    Check DTC, see Step 1)  e or  f .

    1. NO  : No problem.
    2. YES  : Go to step  6.
  6. Replace The ECU And Check Whether Or Not The Trouble Occurs Again. 
    1. YES  : Replace steering angle sensor.
    2. NO  : Check and replace skid control ECU. When replacing the ECU, perform the zero point calibration. See step  6 under PRE-CHECK.
