Electric Cooling Fan

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Toyota Prius and 2002 Toyota Prius. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Connect A/C manifold gauge set. Start engine. Turn blower speed control switch to HI position. Turn temperature control dial to COOL position. Turn A/C switch to ON position.
  2. Inspect fan under conditions specified. See COOLING FAN OPERATING CONDITIONS  table under DESCRIPTION & OPERATION. If operation is not as specified, go to next step.
  3. Disconnect fan connector. With battery connected to ammeter (positive battery terminal to positive ammeter terminal and negative battery and negative ammeter terminals to each connector pin), test amperage readings. See Fig 1. If readings are not as specified, replace cooling fan motor. See COOLING FAN AMPERAGE READINGS  tables. If readings are as specified, check pressure switch, cooling fan relays and ECM.
