Removal & Installation: Removal

  1. Raise and support vehicle.
  2. Remove front wheels.
  3. Remove lower engine covers.
  4. Drain differential oil.
  5. Remove cotter pin and lock cap. Apply brakes, and remove lock nut.
  6. Remove cotter pin and nut, and separate lower ball joint from suspension arm.
  7. Using a plastic hammer, disengage drive shaft from axle hub.
  8. Push steering knuckle outward and remove driveshaft. Be careful not to damage oil seal, boots or dust seal. Remove snap ring from inboard shaft. See Fig 1.
  9. Remove shock absorber lower nut and washer. Pry down on lower suspension arm and remove bolt.
  10. Remove 3 nuts from upper shock absorber bearing plate studs and remove shock absorber.
  11. Using brass drift and hammer, tap on right side drive shaft inner joint to separate from differential. See Fig 2.
  12. Slide axle shaft toward steering knuckle until free of differential assembly. Use care not to damage oil seal, axle shaft, boots or Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) speed sensor rotor (if equipped). Remove right side axle shaft.
  13. Using Remover Tool (09520-01010), remove left side axle shaft. See Fig 2 Remove snap ring from inboard joint shaft with screwdriver. Be careful not to damage dust cover and oil seal.
