Removal & Installation: PRIUS: Removal

- Raise and support vehicle. Remove front wheels. Remove lower engine undercover. Drain transaxle fluid into proper container. Unstake axle shaft bearing lock nut. Apply brakes, and remove axle shaft bearing lock nut.
- Remove nut, and disconnect tie rod end from steering knuckle. Disconnect lower control arm from lower ball joint. See Fig 1. Separate axle shaft from steering knuckle. Using a plastic hammer, disconnect axle shaft from axle hub.
- Using a hub nut wrench and hammer handle, pull out left axle shaft. Remove snap ring from inboard joint shaft. Remove right axle shaft and center axle shaft as an assembly.
