Removal & Installation: Sienna: Reassembly

  1. Install NEW No. 2 dust deflector.
  2. On right axle, install new snap ring to inboard joint shaft.
  3. Using press, install new bearing. Install new snap ring.
  4. Using press, install new dust cover.
  5. On left axle, install dust cover.
  6. On right axle, using seal driver tool and press, install new dust cover until it is positioned correctly from end of shaft (splined end). See Fig 1. Ensure clearance is 3.957 in. (100.5 mm).
  7. Wrap splines on axle shaft with tape to prevent damaging boots during installation. Ensure dust boots are not collapsed or stretched.
  8. On both axles, place alignment marks made on CV joint housings and axle shafts together. Using snap ring expander, install inboard joint shaft while expanding snap ring.
  9. Pack joints and boots with grease supplied in overhaul kit as specified in BOOT GREASE SPECIFICATIONS .
  10. Assemble boot clamps on boots and install boots on inboard and outboard joint shafts.
  11. Set axle shaft to standard length. See AXLE SHAFT LENGTH SPECIFICATIONS .
  12. Install and tighten boot clamps so that clamp is pinched. Tighten boot clamps to the following clearances as shown in illustration. Clearance "A" = .075 in. (1.9 mm) or less, clearance "B" = .059-.098 in. (1.5-2.5 mm) and clearance "C" = .118-157 in. (3-4 mm). See Fig 2.
