Removal & Installation: AVALON: Removal

- Raise and support vehicle.
- Remove front wheels.
- Remove fender apron seal.
- Drain transaxle fluid into proper container.
- Remove cotter pin and lock nut cap. Apply brake, and remove lock nut from wheel bearing.
- To disconnect tie rod end from steering knuckle, remove cotter pin and nut. See Fig 1.
- Using Pitman Arm Puller (SST 09600-20012) tool, or equivalent, disconnect tie rod end from steering knuckle.
- Remove 2 nuts and bolt to disconnect lower ball joint from lower suspension arm.
- Using a plastic hammer, tap axle shaft out of bearing hub. Push front axle hub toward outside of vehicle to separate axle shaft from axle hub.
- Remove left axle shaft using brass drift and hammer. Remove snap ring from inboard joint shaft.
- Remove right axle shaft by removing bearing lock bolt from bearing bracket from right axle shaft and remove right axle shaft. Using pliers, remove snap ring. Remove axle shaft.
