Removal & Installation: AVALON: Disassembly

  1. Remove CV joint boot clamps, and slide boots away from joint.
  2. Paint alignment marks on housing, tripod, inboard and outboard shafts for reassembly reference. DO NOT use punch to make mating marks. See Figure. Remove inboard shaft from outboard shaft.
  3. Using a snap ring expander, remove snap ring.
  4. Paint alignment marks on outboard joint shaft and tripod. DO NOT use punch to make mating marks.
  5. Using brass bar and hammer, remove tripod from outboard joint shaft. DO NOT tap the roller.
  6. Remove inboard and outboard joint boots. DO NOT disassemble outboard joint.
  7. On left axle, using Bearing Remover (SST 09950-00020) tool, or equivalent, and press, remove dust cover from inboard joint shaft.
  8. On right axle, press off transaxle side dust cover from inboard joint shaft.
  9. Using Bearing Remover (SST 09950-00020) tool, or equivalent, and press, remove bearing side dust cover, using care not to damage Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) speed sensor rotor.
  10. Remove snap ring.
  11. Using Bearing Remover (SST 09950-00020) tool, or equivalent, and press, remove bearing.
  12. Remove snap ring.
  13. Mount outboard joint shaft in a soft jaw vise. Using a screwdriver and hammer, remove No. 2 dust deflector, using care to not damage dust deflector. Use care not to damage Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) speed sensor rotor.
