Diagnostic Procedure
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Lexus LS 430. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Turn ignition switch to ACC or On position. Wait at least 20 seconds. Clear DTCs. See CLEARING CODES under DIAGNOSTICS. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Wait at least 20 seconds. Turn ignition switch to ACC or ON position. Wait at least 20 seconds. Retrieve DTCs. See RETRIEVING CODES under DIAGNOSTICS. If DTC 38/B1154 is retrieved, go to next step. If DTC 38/B1154 is not retrieved, system is functioning properly at this time. Check for intermittent fault. See AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT INTERMITTENT .
- Access and inspect head impact air bag sensor assembly connector. See HEAD IMPACT AIR BAG SENSOR ASSEMBLIES under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If head impact air bag sensor assembly is properly connected, go to next step. If head impact air bag sensor assembly is not properly connected. reconnect and go to next step.
- Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Reconnect negative battery cable.
- Install fused jumper wire between head impact air bag sensor assembly harness connector Blue/Black wire and Gray/Red wire. Measure resistance between air bag sensor assembly connector A25, terminals No. 19 (circuit VUCR, Blue/Black wire) and No. 20 (circuit ESCR, Gray/Red wire). See Figure. If resistance is less than one ohm, remove jumper wire and go to next step. If resistance is more than one ohm, repair or replace wire harness between head impact air bag sensor assembly and air bag sensor assembly.
- Measure resistance between ground and air bag sensor assembly connector A25, terminals No. 19 (circuit VUCR, Blue/Black wire) and No. 20 (circuit ESCR, Gray/Red wire) individually. If resistance is more than one ohm, go to next step. If resistance is less than one ohm, repair or replace wire harness between head impact air bag sensor assembly and air bag sensor assembly.
- Turn ignition switch to ON position. Measure voltage between ground and air bag sensor assembly connector A25, terminals No. 19 (circuit VUCR, Blue/Black wire) and No. 20 (circuit ESCR, Gray/Red wire) individually. If voltage is zero volt, go to next step. If voltage is not zero volt, repair or replace wire harness between head impact air bag sensor assembly and air bag sensor assembly.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect negative battery cable. Wait at least 90 seconds. Reconnect head impact air bag sensor assembly and air bag sensor assembly. Reconnect negative battery cable. Turn ignition switch to ACC or On position. Wait at least 20 seconds. If DTC 38/B1154 is retrieved, replace air bag sensor assembly. If DTC 38/B1154 is not retrieved, system is functioning properly at this time. Check for intermittent fault. See AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT INTERMITTENT .
