Removal & Disassembly

  1. Manufacturer lists procedure with engine removed. Remove engine. See ENGINE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Remove timing belt, idler pulleys and crankshaft sprocket. See TIMING BELT REPLACEMENT - 4.3L article.
  2. Remove oil pan. See OIL PAN  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Remove 2 nuts and remove oil strainer and gasket. Remove 8 attaching bolts, and remove oil pump. Remove "O" ring from cylinder block.
  3. To disassemble, remove plug, gasket, compression spring and relief valve. Remove bolts, oil pump cover and rotors. See Fig 1.
