Retrieving Diagnostic Trouble Codes

NOTE:
Always record DTCs during retrieval. DTCs will be erased from memory when DTCs are retrieved.
- Turn ignition off. Connect jumper wire between terminal No. 4 (White/Black wire) and terminal No. 13 (Pink/Black wire) of Data Link Connector No. 3 (DLC3) located under left side of instrument panel. See Fig 1. Turn ignition on. Retrieve and record DTCs. DTCs are displayed as flashes of OPEN DOOR indicator light, located on instrument panel. All DTCs are 2-digit numbers. Pay careful attention to length of pauses in order to read codes correctly. See Fig 2. Clear DTCs. See CLEARING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES . Turn ignition off and remove jumper wire from DLC3.
- Operate power door lock system to see if customer complaint can be recreated. Again retrieve and record DTCs. If same DTC is displayed and symptom is present, diagnose and repair DTC. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE INDEX table. If same DTC is not received, but symptom is still present, diagnose and repair problem by symptom.
- If same DTC is not received and symptom is not present, fault may have occurred in wire harness or connector in the past. Check connectors for loose, damaged or corroded terminals.
