Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes

The DTCs and freeze frame data will be erased by either action:

  1. Connect the OBD II scan tool or hand-held tester to the DLC3. See Figure. Turn the ignition switch ON. When operating an OBD II scan tool (complying with SAE J1978) or hand-held tester to erase the codes, the DTCs and freeze frame data will be erased. See the OBD II scan tool's instruction book for operating instructions.
  2. Disconnect the battery terminals or the EFI fuse (20-amp) and ETCS fuse (10-amp) from the engine room junction block, for more than 60 seconds. However, other memory functions (clock, radio, alarm, seats, etc.) will be cleared and must be reset.
