Without Hand-Held Tester (Prius)

- Fill reservoir with SAE J1703 or FMVSS NO. 116 DOT3 brake fluid. To release pressure from power supply system, turn ignition switch OFF, depress the brake pedal more than 40 times. Turn ignition ON, check that the pump stops after 30 to 40 seconds.
- To bleed air, turn ignition OFF, bleed the right and left front brake caliper. Perform air bleeding for each wheel and depress brake pedal more than 20 times, for each. Turning ignition ON, check that the pump motor stops. Fully open bleeder plug of the right or left rear brake cylinder and drain the fluid while depressing the brake pedal for 3 seconds.
- Release the brake pedal and wait until the pump motor stops. Tighten bleeder screw of rear brake cylinder. While depressing the brake pedal, let air out from the rear brake cylinder. Perform steps for other rear brake cylinder. With ignition ON, check that the pump motor stops. Fully open the bleeder plug of the front left brake cylinder and drain fluid while depressing brake pedal for 3 seconds.
- Release the brake caliper and wait until the pump motor stops. Repeat steps until all air is completely bled. Tighten left front brake cylinder bleeder plug to specifications. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
