Using ABS Actuator Checker (Except Prius)

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Toyota Prius, 2002 Toyota Land Cruiser, 2002 Toyota 4Runner, 2001 Toyota Prius, and 2001 Toyota 4Runner. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: Do not keep the MAIN switch pushed in for more than 10 seconds. When operating it continuously, set the interval of more than 20 seconds.
  1. Disconnect the 2 connectors from the hydraulic brake booster.
  2. Connect the connector with the label of "AIR BLEED" attached to the connector of the actuator checker (09990-00150/00480), to the hydraulic brake booster side wire harness via the sub-wire harness. See Fig 1.
  3. Connect the red cable of the checker to the battery positive (+) terminal and the black cable to the negative (-) terminal.
  4. Turn the ignition switch OFF and depress the brake pedal more than 40 times. When the pressure in the power supply system is released, reaction force becomes light and stroke becomes longer.
  5. Turn the ignition switch ON and check that the pump stops after 30 to 40 seconds. If the pump does not stop, repeat step 4.
  6. With the ignition switch ON depress the brake medal more than 20 times. Hold the pedal depressed and bleed the right and left front wheel calipers. See BRAKE LINES .
  7. Hold the pedal depressed and bleed the right and left rear wheel calipers. See BRAKE LINES .
  8. Turn the selector switch of the actuator checker to the "FRONT RH" position. Push and hold in MAIN push switch, depress the brake pedal and hold it to bleed the right front brake caliper. Repeat until there are no more air bubbles in the fluid.
  9. Turn the selector switch of the actuator checker to the "FRONT LH" position. Push and hold in MAIN push switch, depress the brake pedal and hold it to bleed the left front brake caliper. Repeat until there are no more air bubbles in the fluid.
  10. Push and hold in the "SUB LH" and "SUB RH" switches and bleed the right rear brake caliper. Repeat until there are no more air bubbles in the fluid.
  11. Push and hold in the "SUB LH" and "SUB RH" switches and bleed the left rear brake caliper. Repeat until there are no more air bubbles in the fluid.
  12. Disconnect the actuator checker and sub-wire harness from the actuator.
  13. Connect the 2 connectors to the hydraulic brake booster.
  14. Clear the DTC. See appropriate ANTI-LOCK/TRAC CONTROL article.
