Diagnostic Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Lexus RX 300 and 2002 Lexus RX 300. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
CAUTION: Do not connect the high tension cables to the wrong battery terminal. The cruise control actuator will be damaged.
  1. Check the cruise control actuator arm locking operation. Turn the ignition switch OFF. Disconnect the actuator connector. Connect the positive (+) lead from the battery to terminal No. 3 of the actuator and the negative (-) lead to terminal No. 4. See CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION . Move the control plate by hand. If the control plate doesn't move, go to the next step. If the control plate does move, replace the cruise control actuator.
  2. Check the cruise control actuator operation. Turn the ignition switch OFF. Disconnect the actuator connector. Connect the positive (+) lead from the battery to terminals No. 1 and 3 of the actuator, connect the negative (-) lead to terminals No. 2 and 4 of the actuator. See CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION . The results are OK if the control arm moves to the fully open side. Connect the positive (+) lead from the battery to terminals No. 2 and 3 of the actuator, connect the negative (-) lead to terminals No. 1 and 4 of the actuator. The results are OK if the control arm moves to the fully closed side. If the results are OK, go to the next step. If the results are not OK, replace the cruise control actuator.
  3. Check the wiring harness and connector between the cruise control ECU and cruise control actuator. If the results are OK, check and replace the cruise control ECU. See CRUISE CONTROL ECU  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If the results are not OK, repair or replace the wiring harness or connector.
