Diagnostic Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Lexus RX 300 and 2002 Lexus RX 300. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Disconnect the stop light switch connector. Check the continuity between terminals. See CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION . See INSPECTING STOP LIGHT SWITCH CONTINUITY  table. If the continuity is OK, go to the next step. If the continuity is not OK, replace the stop light switch. Remove the lower finish panel of the instrument panel to reach the stop light switch. See INSTRUMENT PANEL under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in INSTRUMENT PANEL article.
    INSPECTING STOP LIGHT SWITCH CONTINUITY

    Switch Position Continuity
Switch Pin Free (Brake Pedal Depressed) 1 - 2
Switch Pin Pushed In (Brake Pedal Released) 3 - 4
  2. Turn the ignition switch OFF. Disconnect the actuator connector. Measure the resistance between terminals No. 3 (L) and 4 (GND) of the actuator magnetic clutch. See CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION . If resistance is between 34.65-42.35 ohms, go to the next step. If the resistance is not as specified, replace the cruise control actuator.
  3. Check for an open and short in the wiring harness and connectors between the cruise control ECU and actuator magnetic clutch, actuator magnetic clutch and body ground. If the results are OK, check and replace the cruise control ECU. See CRUISE CONTROL ECU  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If the results are not OK, repair or replace the wiring harness or connector.
