Diagnostic Procedure
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Lexus RX 300 and 2002 Lexus RX 300. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Delete the DTC and insert all the presently available keys to check whether the engine starts or not. If all the keys start the engine, confirm whether or not customers have ever inserted the key (without transponder chip) of another vehicle in the ignition key cylinder, and find out the cause of the detecting DTC. If a specific key does not start the engine (DTC B2796 is stored in memory), the transponder chip of a specific key is defective. Replace the key. If all the keys do not start the engine (DTC B2796 is stored in memory), go to the next step.
- Check the transponder key coil. See TRANSPONDER KEY COIL under COMPONENT TESTS. If the results are OK, go to the next step. If the results are not good, replace the transponder key coil. See appropriate STEERING COLUMN article.
- Check the harness and connector between the transponder key amplifier and ECM. If the results are OK, go to the next step. If the results are not good, repair or replace the harness and connector.
- If the system operates normally after replacement of the transponder key amplifier, replace the transponder key amplifier. See appropriate STEERING COLUMN article. If the system does not operate normally after replacement, replace the ECM. See ENGINE CONTROL MODULE (ECM) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
