Test No. 16: Power Outside Rearview Mirror Operates Abnormally

  1. Check power mirror switch. See POWER MIRROR SWITCH under COMPONENT TESTS under POWER MIRRORS - AVALON article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. If power mirror switch is okay, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect power seat ECU 25-pin electrical harness connector P21 and power mirror switch 10-pin electrical harness connector. Using an ohmmeter, check for opens and shorts in wiring, harness and connectors between power seat ECU and power mirror switch. See MEMORY SYSTEMS in SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article. If wires, wiring harnesses and connectors are okay, go to next step. If wires, wiring harnesses and connectors are not okay, repair and/or replace as required. After repairs have been made, perform confirmation test. See CONFIRMATION TEST .
  3. Check power mirror motor. See POWER MIRROR MOTOR under COMPONENT TESTS under POWER MIRRORS - AVALON article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. If power mirror motor is okay, go to next step.
  4. Check body control ECU. See BODY CONTROL SYSTEMS - AVALON article under COMMUNICATION DEVICES in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. If body control ECU is okay, go to next step.
  5. Check wiring harnesses and connectors between power mirror switch and power seat ECU, between power seat ECU and body control ECU, between body control ECU and driver door ECU, between body control ECU and front passenger door ECU, between driver door ECU and outside rearview mirror and between front passenger door ECU and outside rearview mirror. Repair and/or replace wiring harnesses and connectors as required. After repairs have been made, perform confirmation test. See CONFIRMATION TEST .
