Compression (All Models)
WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 10 other vehicles, including the 2002 Toyota Tundra, 2002 Toyota Tacoma, 2002 Toyota Sienna, 2002 Toyota Sequoia, and 2002 Toyota Land Cruiser. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
Warm engine to normal operating temperature before checking the compression. Ensure battery is fully charged. Remove ignition coils. See IGNITION COIL under IGNITION SYSTEMS in REMOVAL, OVERHAUL & INSTALLATION - V6 & V8 article. Remove spark plugs. On Camry and Highlander, manufacturer states to disconnect electrical connectors at fuel injectors. On all models, using compression gauge, check compression with throttle fully open. Read compression in a short a time as possible. Ensure compression is within specification. See COMPRESSION SPECIFICATIONS table. Install and tighten spark plugs to 13 ft. lbs. (18 N.m). Reinstall ignition coils.
