Camry Solara, Tacoma, Tundra 3.4L V6 & 4Runner

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 10 other vehicles, including the 2002 Toyota Tundra, 2002 Toyota Tacoma, 2002 Toyota Sienna, 2002 Toyota Sequoia, and 2002 Toyota Land Cruiser. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. To check ignition coil primary resistance, remove necessary components for access to ignition coil. Disconnect electrical connector at ignition coil.
  2. To disconnect spark plug wire at ignition coil, use screwdriver to lift lock claw upward. See Fig 1. Disconnect holder at ignition coil. Pull upward on grommet to disconnect spark plug wire from ignition coil. See Fig 2. DO NOT pull on spark plug wire.
  3. Using ohmmeter, check ignition coil primary resistance between positive (+) and negative (-) electrical terminals on ignition coil. See Fig 3. These are electrical terminals on ignition coil that electrical connector was installed on. Replace ignition coil if ignition coil primary resistance is not within specification. See IGNITION COIL RESISTANCE  table.
  4. To check ignition coil secondary resistance, remove ignition coil. See IGNITION COIL under IGNITION SYSTEMS in REMOVAL, OVERHAUL & INSTALLATION - V6 & V8 article. Using ohmmeter, check ignition coil secondary resistance. See Fig 4. Replace ignition coil if ignition coil secondary resistance is not within specification. See IGNITION COIL RESISTANCE  table.
  5. Reinstall ignition coil. When installing spark plug wire on ignition coil, ensure spline on ignition coil aligns with spline on holder and install spark plug wire. Ensure holder is properly positioned on grommet and ignition coil. See Fig 2. Lightly pull upward on holder to ensure lock claw is securely locked in place.
