Testing Using An Ammeter With Current Measuring Probe

  1. PTC thermistor is integral with power door lock motor of door lock assembly. Remove door panel from door for access to door lock assembly. See POWER DOOR LOCK ASSEMBLY (REAR DOORS)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Black 4-pin electrical harness connector from suspect door lock assembly.
  2. Using jumper wires, connect positive battery lead to door lock assembly terminal No. 3 and connect negative battery lead to door lock assembly terminal No. 4. Attach current measuring probe to either positive or negative lead. See STEP 1 of Fig 1. Ensure current changes from about 3.2 amps to less than 0.5 amp within 20-70 seconds. If current changes as specified, go to next step. If current does not change as specified, replace door lock assembly. See POWER DOOR LOCK ASSEMBLY (REAR DOORS)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  3. Disconnect test leads from door lock assembly terminals and wait at least 60 seconds. Connect positive battery lead to door lock assembly terminal No. 4 and connect negative battery lead to door lock assembly terminal No. 3. See STEP 2 of Fig 1. Ensure door lock moves to LOCK position. If operation is not as specified, replace door lock assembly. See POWER DOOR LOCK ASSEMBLY (REAR DOORS)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
