Test B: Taillight Does Not Light Up

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Lexus ES 300. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: For taillight circuit diagram, see Fig 1.
  1. Perform the ACTIVE TEST by using the hand-held tester. Connect the hand-held tester to the DLC3. Turn the ignition switch ON and push the hand-held tester main SW ON. Select the item TAIL LIGHT in the ACTIVE TEST and operate the taillight. If the taillight relay is ON in the tester and the taillight lights up, then the results are OK. If the results are OK, go to step  3. If the results are not good, go to the next step.
  2. See RELAYS under COMPONENT TESTS in STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES - ES 300 article. If the continuity is OK, repair or replace the harness or connector between the driver side junction block assembly and the taillight relay. If the continuity is not good, replace the taillight relay.
  3. Read the value of the hand-held tester. Connect the hand-held tester to the DLC3. Check the taillight using the DATA LIST. See TAILLIGHT DATA LIST  table. IF the results are OK, check and replace the driver side junction block assembly between the driver side junction block and taillight relay. If the results are not good, replace the headlight dimmer switch assembly. See HEADLAMP DIMMER/TURN SIGNAL SWITCH ASSEMBLY under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES - ES 300 article.
