Test G: Buzzer Does Not Sound (Key Reminder Warning, Seat Belt Warning)
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Lexus ES 300 and 2002 Lexus ES 300. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Check the buzzer (key reminder warning, seat belt warning). Check that all of the warning buzzers sound. If all the buzzers do not sound, check and replace the combination meter assembly. See COMBINATION METER SAFETY PAD SUB-ASSEMBLY under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If the key reminder warning buzzer does not sound, go to the next step. If the seat belt warning buzzer does not sound, go to step 3.
- Check the combination meter assembly:
- Check the voltage. Remove the combination meter assembly with the connectors still connected. Open the driver side door and ignition key still insert the ignition switch. Measure the voltage between terminal No. C8-15 of the combination meter assembly and body ground. See COMBINATION METER STANDARD VOLTAGE table. See Figure.COMBINATION METER STANDARD VOLTAGE
Ignition Switch Position Voltage Ignition Switch Is ON Position 10-14 Ignition Switch Is ACC Or LOCK Position Less Than 1 - If the voltage is OK, check and replace the combination meter assembly. See COMBINATION METER SAFETY PAD SUB-ASSEMBLY under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If the voltage is not OK, go to the next step.
See Figure.
- Check the combination meter assembly:
- Check the driver seat belt warning operation. Remove the combination meter assembly. Ground the terminal No. C7-5 of the combination meter assembly connector. See Figure. Check that the seat belt warning buzzer sounds.
- If the results are OK, go to the next step. If the results are not OK, check and replace the combination meter assembly. See COMBINATION METER SAFETY PAD SUB-ASSEMBLY under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
- Check the harness and connector between the combination meter assembly and the center air bag sensor assembly. If the results are OK, go to the next step. If the results are not OK, repair or replace the harness or connector.
- Inspect the left hand front seat inner belt assembly:
- Check the resistance between terminals No. 1 and 4 of the left hand front seat inner belt assembly. See LH FRONT SEAT INNER BELT RESISTANCE table. See CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION .LH FRONT SEAT INNER BELT RESISTANCE
Condition Resistance Seat Belt Is Fastened 300 Ohms Seat Belt Is Unfastened 1330 Ohms - If the continuity is OK, go to the next step. If the continuity is not OK, replace the left hand front seat inner belt assembly. See POSITION CONTROL ECU under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION under appropriate POWER SEATS article in SEATS.
- Check the resistance between terminals No. 1 and 4 of the left hand front seat inner belt assembly. See LH FRONT SEAT INNER BELT RESISTANCE table. See CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION .
- Check the wiring harness and connector between the center air bag sensor assembly and the left hand front seat inner belt assembly. If the results are OK, go to the next step. If the results are not OK, repair or replace the wiring harness or connector.
- Check the wiring harness or connector between the left hand front seat inner belt assembly and body ground. If the results are OK, check and replace the center air bag sensor assembly. See appropriate AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article. If the results are not OK, repair or replace the wiring harness or connector.
