Removal & Installation (4Runner 4.0L)

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 10 other vehicles, including the 2003 Toyota Tundra, 2003 Toyota Tacoma, 2003 Toyota Sienna, 2003 Toyota Sequoia, and 2003 Toyota Land Cruiser. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Drain cooling system.
  2. Remove "V" bank cover.
  3. Remove air cleaner assembly with air cleaner hose between air cleaner and throttle body.
  4. Disconnect necessary water by-passe hose from throttle body.
  5. Disconnect fuel vapor feed hose from air intake chamber. See Figure.
  6. Disconnect necessary electrical connectors and ventilation hose from air intake chamber.
  7. Remove necessary wire harness clamps and ventilation hose clamps.
  8. Remove air intake chamber stays and throttle body support bracket.
  9. Remove bolt/nuts and air intake chamber and gasket.
  10. Remove driver and passenger side fuel pipe clamps. Pinch tube connector and pull out fuel pipe. See Figure.
  11. Disconnect electrical connectors at fuel injectors. Remove 10 bolts, intake manifold and 2 gaskets.
  12. Remove 2 bolts and 2 camshaft timing oil control valves. See Fig 1.
  13. To install, reverse removal procedure using NEW gaskets and "O" rings where needed. Tighten bolts/nuts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
