Removal & Installation (4Runner 4.0L)

- Remove "V" bank cover.
- Remove 4 bolts and remove front engine under cover.
- Release belt tension by turning belt tensioner counterclockwise, and remove drive belt from belt tensioner. See Fig 1.
- Remove battery.
- Remove wire harness and wire harness support. Disconnect electrical connector from generator assembly.
- Remove terminal cap and nut. Disconnect wire harness from terminal "B". See Fig 2.
- Remove 2 bolts and wire harness clamp bracket from generator assembly.
- Remove 2 bolts and generator assembly.
- Remove 4 bolts and remove rear engine under cover.
- Remove bolt and separate suction hose. Disconnect A/C compressor connector. See Fig 3.
- Remove 4 bolts and separate A/C compressor from belt tensioner.
- Disconnect electrical connector at crankshaft position sensor. Remove bolt and crankshaft position sensor. See Fig 4.
- To install, reverse removal procedure. To install drive belt, turn belt tensioner clockwise and insert bar into holes to hold tensioner in place. Turn belt tensioner clockwise to remove bar and tighten drive belt across accessories. Tighten bolts/nuts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
