Removal (Avalon, Highlander & Sienna)

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 10 other vehicles, including the 2003 Toyota Tundra, 2003 Toyota Tacoma, 2003 Toyota Sienna, 2003 Toyota Sequoia, and 2003 Toyota Land Cruiser. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Drain cooling system.
  2. Remove "V" bank cover for access to both throttle bodies. See Figure.
  3. Remove air cleaner hose from throttle bodies and air cleaner. On Highlander, it may be necessary to remove air cleaner case.
  4. On all models, remove bolt from throttle body bracket on side of No. 1 throttle body.
  5. Disconnect control cables, air assist hose (if equipped), vacuum hoses and electrical connectors at throttle bodies. Disconnect coolant hoses from intake manifold and coolant housing.
  6. Remove No. 1 intake air control valve-to-air intake chamber nuts. Remove both throttle bodies with No. 1 intake air control valve as an assembly from air intake chamber.
  7. Remove protector located above both throttle bodies. See Figure.
  8. Remove bolts, throttle bodies, gaskets and "O" rings from No. 1 intake air control valve. An "O" ring is installed at bottom of No. 1 intake air control valve and each throttle body.
  9. Remove bolts, Idle Air Control (IAC) valve and gasket from bottom of No. 1 throttle body (if necessary).
  10. Remove retaining screws and Throttle Position (TP) sensor from No. 1 throttle body (if necessary).
