Removal (4Runner 4.0L)

- Release fuel pressure. See FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE .
- Drain cooling system.
- Remove "V" bank cover.
- Remove air cleaner assembly with air cleaner hose between air cleaner and throttle body.
- Disconnect necessary water by-pass hose from throttle body.
- Disconnect fuel vapor feed tube from air intake chamber. See Figure.
- Disconnect necessary electrical connectors and ventilation hose. Remove 3 wire harness clamps and hose clamp.
- Remove 3 bolts and remove 2 air intake chamber stays and throttle body support bracket.
- Remove bolts/nuts and air intake chamber with gasket.
- Remove fuel pipe clamp on driver and passenger side fuel rail. Pinch tube connector and pull out fuel pipe. See Figure.CAUTION: When removing fuel rails, use care not to allow fuel injectors to fall from fuel rail.
- If necessary, remove retaining clip to remove fuel pressure pulsation damper from driver side fuel rail. See Fig 1.
- Disconnect 6 electrical connectors at fuel injectors. Remove 6 bolts and remove fuel rail with fuel injectors as an assembly.
- Remove fuel injectors from fuel rail. Remove "O" ring and insulator from fuel injector.
