Removal (4Runner 4.0L)

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 10 other vehicles, including the 2003 Toyota Tundra, 2003 Toyota Tacoma, 2003 Toyota Sienna, 2003 Toyota Sequoia, and 2003 Toyota Land Cruiser. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Release fuel pressure. See FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE .
  2. Drain cooling system.
  3. Remove "V" bank cover.
  4. Remove air cleaner assembly with air cleaner hose between air cleaner and throttle body.
  5. Disconnect necessary water by-pass hose from throttle body.
  6. Disconnect fuel vapor feed tube from air intake chamber. See Figure.
  7. Disconnect necessary electrical connectors and ventilation hose. Remove 3 wire harness clamps and hose clamp.
  8. Remove 3 bolts and remove 2 air intake chamber stays and throttle body support bracket.
  9. Remove bolts/nuts and air intake chamber with gasket.
  10. Remove fuel pipe clamp on driver and passenger side fuel rail. Pinch tube connector and pull out fuel pipe. See Figure.
    CAUTION: When removing fuel rails, use care not to allow fuel injectors to fall from fuel rail.
  11. If necessary, remove retaining clip to remove fuel pressure pulsation damper from driver side fuel rail. See Fig 1.
  12. Disconnect 6 electrical connectors at fuel injectors. Remove 6 bolts and remove fuel rail with fuel injectors as an assembly.
  13. Remove fuel injectors from fuel rail. Remove "O" ring and insulator from fuel injector.
