Removal (Sienna)

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 10 other vehicles, including the 2003 Toyota Tundra, 2003 Toyota Tacoma, 2003 Toyota Sienna, 2003 Toyota Sequoia, and 2003 Toyota Land Cruiser. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Air intake chamber and intake manifold must be removed for access to knock sensors. Knock sensors are located on cylinder block, just below cylinder heads. See Figure.
  2. Release fuel pressure. See FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE  under FUEL SYSTEMS.
  3. Drain cooling system.
  4. Remove caps, windshield wiper arm nuts and windshield wiper arms. Remove top seal. Remove cowl top panel cap. See Fig 1.
  5. Remove clips and disconnect hose windshield washer hoses. Remove driver's side and passenger's side ventilation louvers.
  6. Remove bolts from cowl top panel. Disconnect electrical connector at windshield wiper motor. Remove cowl top panel. See Fig 1.
  7. Remove air cleaner hose and "V" bank cover. See Figure.
  8. Remove bolts and engine mount support brace for engine mount at timing belt end of engine. Engine mount support brace fits from top of coolant housing to the engine mount. See Fig 2.
  9. Disconnect control cables, electrical connectors, vacuum hoses and coolant hoses at each throttle body.
  10. Disconnect electrical connectors and vacuum hoses from vacuum switching valves on emission control valve set located on side of air intake chamber. See Figure.
  11. Remove nuts and disconnect power steering pressure tube from engine hanger.
  12. Disconnect PCV hose from PCV valve on rear cylinder head.
  13. Disconnect necessary electrical connectors, ground straps, air assist hoses and vacuum hoses for removal of air intake chamber and intake manifold.
  14. Remove bolts, engine hanger and throttle body bracket. See Figure.
  15. Remove bolts/nuts, air intake chamber and gasket. Note location of electrical connectors on fuel injectors for installation reference. Disconnect electrical connectors at fuel injectors.
  16. Remove fuel pipe clamp from No. 1 fuel pipe. See Fig 3. Ensure area around No. 1 fuel pipe and disconnect fitting is clean.
CAUTION: Use care when disconnecting No. 1 fuel pipe from fuel pipe fitting, as some residual fuel pressure may still exist in the fuel system.
  17. Depress both sides of retainer and pull No. 1 fuel pipe with disconnect fitting from fuel pipe fitting. See Fig 3.
  18. Disconnect coolant hoses at intake manifold.
  19. Remove bolts/nuts and intake manifold with fuel injectors and fuel rails as an assembly. Remove gaskets for intake manifold.
  20. Disconnect electrical connectors and hoses for removal of coolant housing. Coolant housing is located on cylinder block, in front of intake manifold area. See Figure.
  21. Remove bolts/nuts, coolant housing and gaskets.
  22. Disconnect electrical connectors at knock sensors. Using Backup Light Switch Socket (SST 09817-16011), or equivalent, remove knock sensors from cylinder block.
