Removal (4Runner 4.0L)

- Release fuel pressure. See FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE under FUEL SYSTEMS.
- Drain cooling system.
- Remove "V" bank cover.
- Disconnect electrical connectors, vacuum hose and ventilation hose from air cleaner assembly. Remove air cleaner assembly
- Disconnect the 2 VSV connectors, disconnect the throttle motor connector and disconnect fuel vapor feed hose from air intake chamber. Remove the 3 wire harness clamps and hose clamp. See Fig 1.
- Remove the 3 upper bolts which are used to secure the 2 surge tank stays and throttle body bracket.
- Remove the 4 bolts. Remove the 2 nuts, air intake chamber and gasket with throttle body attached.
- Remove fuel pipe clamps on opposite sides of intake manifold. Pinch tube connector then pull out fuel pipe.
- Disconnect fuel injector connectors. Remove bolts, intake manifold and gaskets.
- Remove cylinder heads. See appropriate article in ENGINES. Disconnect heater water inlet hose. See Fig 2.
- Remove 4 wire harness clamps. Remove bolt/nuts and water outlet pipe. See Fig 3.
- Disconnect 2 knock sensor connectors. Remove the 2 bolts and 2 knock sensors.
