Knock Sensor: Installation

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 11 other vehicles, including the 2003 Toyota Tacoma, 2003 Toyota RAV4, 2003 Toyota Prius, 2003 Toyota Matrix, and 2003 Toyota MR2. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Install and tighten knock sensor to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  2. To install intake manifold, reverse removal procedure using NEW gasket. Tighten intake manifold bolts/nuts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  3. Reinstall engine.

  1. On models equipped with 1ZZ-FE engine, install and tighten knock sensor to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . On models equipped with 2ZZ-GE engine, install knock sensor on stud on cylinder block. Ensure electrical connector fitting on knock sensor is positioned in original location in relation to the cylinder block. Install and tighten knock sensor retaining nut to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . On all models, reinstall electrical connector on knock sensor.
  2. To install remaining components, reverse removal procedure using NEW gaskets.
  3. On models equipped with 2ZZ-GE engine, note intake manifold bolt/nut identification before tightening intake manifold bolts/nuts to specification. See Fig 3. On all models, ensure gasket for throttle body is installed with protrusion area facing proper direction. See THROTTLE BODY  under FUEL SYSTEMS. Tighten bolts/nuts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  4. Fill and bleed cooling system. See COOLING SYSTEM BLEEDING  under COOLING SYSTEM.

  1. Install and tighten knock sensor to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . To install intake manifold on Matrix models equipped with 2ZZ-GE engine, see Figure
  2. To install remaining components, reverse removal procedure using NEW gaskets. Ensure gasket for throttle body is installed with protrusion area facing proper direction. See THROTTLE BODY  under FUEL SYSTEMS. Tighten bolts/nuts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  3. Fill cooling system.

  1. Install and tighten knock sensor to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  2. To install remaining components, reverse removal procedure using NEW gaskets. Tighten bolts/nuts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  3. Fill cooling system.

  1. Install and tighten knock sensor to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  2. To install intake manifold, reverse removal procedure using NEW gasket. Tighten intake manifold bolts/nuts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  3. Reinstall engine.
  4. Fill and bleed cooling system. See COOLING SYSTEM BLEEDING  under COOLING SYSTEM.

  1. Install and tighten knock sensor to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  2. To install remaining components, reverse removal procedure using NEW gaskets and "O" ring on dipstick tube. Tighten bolts/nuts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  3. Fill and bleed cooling system. See COOLING SYSTEM BLEEDING  under COOLING SYSTEM.

  1. Install and tighten knock sensor to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  2. To install intake manifold, reverse removal procedure using NEW gasket. Tighten intake manifold bolts/nuts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  3. Reinstall engine.
