Circuit Description

The Direct Ignition System (DIS) is a one-cylinder ignition system which ignites one spark plug connected to the end of the secondary winding of one ignition coil. The ECM determines the ignition timing and outputs the ignition signals (IGT) for each cylinder. Based on the IGT signals, the power transistors in the igniter cut off the current to the primary coil in the ignition coil. High voltage is supplied to the spark plug that is connected to the end of the secondary coil. At the same time, the igniter also sends an ignition confirmation signal (IGF) as a fail-safe measure to the ECM. DTC(s) will set when no IGF signal is output to ECM while engine is running. Probable causes are:
- Ignition system malfunction.
- Open or short circuit between ignition coil (1-8) with ignitor and ECM.
- Defective ignition coil (1-8) with ignitor.
- ECM malfunction.NOTE: If DTCs P0351, P0354, P0356 and P0357 are output simultaneously, IGF1 circuit may be open or shorted.NOTE: If DTCs P0352, P0353, P0355 and P0358 are output simultaneously, IGF2 circuit may be open or shorted.
