Diagnosis & Repair
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Toyota Camry Solara. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
Read freeze frame data using hand-held tester or OBD II scan tool, as freeze frame data records the engine conditions when a malfunction is detected. When trouble shooting, it is useful for determining whether the vehicle was running or stopped, the engine was warmed up or not, the air-fuel ratio was lean or rich, etc. at the time of the malfunction.
- Check if there are any other codes (besides P0505) being output. If other codes are output, diagnose and repair those codes first. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS . If other codes are not output, go to next step.
- Check connection of the PCV hose. See VACUUM DIAGRAMS article. If the connection is OK, go to next step. If the connection is not good, repair or replace the PCV hose.
- Check the air induction system.
- Separation of the engine oil dipstick, oil filler cap, PCV hose, etc. may cause the engine to run out of tune.
- Disconnection, looseness or cracks in the parts of the air induction system between the throttle body and cylinder head will allow air suction and cause the engine to run out of tune.
