NOTE: Read freeze frame data using the hand-held tester or OBD II scan tool, as freeze frame data records the engine conditions when the malfunction is detected. When trouble shooting, it is useful for determining whether the vehicle was running or stopped, the engine was warmed up or not, the air-fuel ratio was lean or rich, etc. at the time of the malfunction.

Check resistance of the camshaft position sensor. See SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING - 4-CYLINDER article. To inspect using oscilloscope, see DTC P0335: CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR "A" CIRCUIT . If the results are OK, go to next step. If the results are not good, replace the camshaft position sensor. See REMOVAL, OVERHAUL & INSTALLATION - 4-CYLINDER article.
Check for open and short in harness and connector between ECM and camshaft position sensor. See appropriate WIRING DIAGRAM under ENGINE PERFORMANCE in SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article. If the results are OK, go to next step. If the results are not good, repair or replace the harness or connector.
Inspect the sensor installation and signal rotor teeth of intake camshaft. See appropriate article in ENGINES. If the results are OK, check and replace the ECM. To check ECM inputs and outputs, see PIN VOLTAGE CHARTS article. For ECM location, see ENGINE CONTROL MODULE LOCATION under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If the results are not good, tighten the sensor securely. Replace intake camshaft.
