Circuit Description

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Toyota Camry Solara. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

A thermistor built in the engine coolant temperature sensor changes the resistance value according to the engine coolant temperature. The structure of the sensor and connection to the ECM is the same as those of the intake air temperature circuit malfunction. See DTC P0110, DTC P0112 & DTC P0113 .

Detecting condition of DTCs are when there is an open or short (P0115), open (P0117) or short (P0118) in engine coolant temperature sensor circuit for 0.5 seconds.

After confirming DTC P0115, P0117 or P0118 use the hand-held tester or OBD II scan tool to confirm the engine coolant temperature from the CURRENT DATA. See IDENTIFYING DTC P0115, P0117 & P0118 CURRENT DATA  table.
