Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Toyota Camry. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
If the hand-held tester switches the engine control module (ECM) from the normal mode to the check mode or vise-versa, or if the ignition switch is turned from ON to ACC or OFF during the check mode, the DTCs and freeze frame data will be erased.
The DTCs and freeze frame data will be erased by either action:
- Operating the OBD II scan tool (complying with SAE J1978) or the hand-held tester to erase the codes. See the OBD II scan tool's instruction book for operating instructions.
- Disconnect battery terminals or EFI fuse (20-amp) and ETCS fuse (10-amp) located in engine room junction block for more than 30 seconds. However, other memory functions (clock, radio, alarm, seats, etc.) will be cleared and must be reset.
