Diagnosis & Repair

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Toyota Camry. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: Read freeze frame data using the hand-held tester or the OBD II scan tool, as freeze frame data records the engine conditions when a malfunction is detected. When trouble shooting, it is useful for determining whether the vehicle was running or stopped, the engine was warmed up or not, the air-fuel ratio was lean or rich, etc. at the time of the malfunction.

For wiring diagram, see Fig 1. For diagnosis and repair with hand-held tester, see Fig 2 and Fig 3 . For diagnosis and repair with OBD II scan tool, see Fig 4 and Fig 5 . To identify circuits referenced in testing, see appropriate WIRING DIAGRAM under ENGINE PERFORMANCE in SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS. To check ECM inputs and outputs, see PIN VOLTAGE CHARTS article. For testing of systems or components, see SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING - 4-CYLINDER article. For removal and installation of components, see REMOVAL, OVERHAUL & INSTALLATION - 4-CYLINDER article.
