Installation (SC430)

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 8 other vehicles, including the 2003 Lexus SC 430, 2003 Lexus RX 300, 2003 Lexus LX 470, 2003 Lexus LS 430, and 2003 Lexus IS 300. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Install PNP switch and temporarily install bolt.
  2. Place a NEW lock plate and tighten nut to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  3. Temporarily install control shift lever. Turn lever counterclockwise until it stops. Turn clockwise 2 notches. Remove control shift lever.
  4. Align groove with neutral basic line. See Fig 1. Hold switch in position and tighten bolt to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  5. Using a screwdriver, stake nut with lock plate.
  6. Install nut and control shift lever with rod. Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Temporarily install rod to connecting rod swivel with nut.
  7. When shifting from "P" to "R" position with ignition and brake pedal on, make sure that shifting lever moves smoothly and can be moderately operated. When starting engine, make sure vehicle moves forward when shifting from "N" to "D" position and moves rearward when shifting to "R" position.
  8. Loosen nut shown. See Fig 2. Push control shaft fully rearward. Return control shift lever 2 notches to "N" position. While holding shift lever lightly toward "R" position, tighten nut to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  9. Install front floor heat insulator No. 1 with 4 bolts and tighten nut to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  10. Install exhaust pipe and tighten bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  11. Install oxygen sensor and tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  12. Install frame spacers and lower suspension member braces. Tighten bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  13. Install front floor brace center. Tighten bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  14. Apply parking brake and turn ignition switch on. Depress brake pedal and check that engine starts only when shift lever is in "N" or "P" position. Check that back-up light is lit and reverse warning buzzer sounds only when shift lever is in "R" position. If a failure is found, check park/neutral position switch for continuity.
  15. Check for exhaust gas leaks.
