Diagnosis & Repair

- Check spark plug and spark of misfiring cylinder. See SPARK TEST under IGNITION CHECKS in BASIC DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES article. If okay, go to next step. If not okay, go to step 4.
- Disconnect I1, I2, I3, I4, I5, I6, I7 or I8 ignition coil connector. Disconnect the E4 ECM connector. See Fig 1-Fig 2
. Check continuity between the wire harness side connectors. See IGNITION COIL/ECM IF SIGNAL TERMINAL CONTINUITY CHECK table. If continuity is to specification, go to next step. If continuity is not to specification, repair or replace harness and connector as necessary.
IGNITION COIL/ECM IF SIGNAL TERMINAL CONTINUITY CHECK

Measure voltage between terminals of E4 and E3 ECM connectors. See Fig 3. See ECM E3 & E4 VOLTAGE SPECIFICATIONS table. If voltage is to specification, replace ignition coil assembly. If voltage is not to specification, check and replace ECM.ECM E3 & E4 VOLTAGE SPECIFICATIONS

See Fig 1. Turn the ignition switch to ON and START position. Measure the voltage between the terminal of the wire harness side connector and body ground. See IGNITION COIL POWER SOURCE VOLTAGE CHECK table. If voltage is to specification, repair ignition coil assembly. If voltage is not to specification, go to next step.IGNITION COIL POWER SOURCE VOLTAGE CHECK

Check continuity of INJ fuse. Disconnect the I1, I2, I3, 14, I5, I6, I7 or I8 ignition coil connector. Remove IG2 relay from the engine room No. 1 relay block. Check continuity between wire harness side connectors. See IGNITION COIL/IG2 RELAY CONTINUITY CHECK table. If not to specification, repair or replace harness and connector. If to specification, replace ignition coil assembly.IGNITION COIL/IG2 RELAY CONTINUITY CHECK
