Diagnosis & Repair
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Lexus SC 430. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Disconnect the throttle position sensor connector. Measure the resistance between the terminals of the throttle position sensor. See Fig 1. See THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR RESISTANCE table. If readings are within specification, go to next step. If readings are not within specification, go to next step.THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR RESISTANCE
Terminals No. Specified Condition VC (3) - ETA (6) 1.2-3.2 Ohms At 68°F (20°C) VTA (5) - ETA (6) 1.8-10.5 Ohms At 68°F (20°C) VTA2 (4) - ETA (6) 1.8-10.5 Ohms At 68°F (20°C) - Turn the ignition switch ON. Measure the voltage between the terminals VC and ETA of E2 ECM connector. See Fig 2. If 4.5-5.5 volts are present, go to next step. If 4.5-5.5 volts are not present, check and replace ECM.
- Disconnect the T2 throttle position sensor connector. Disconnect the E2 ECM connector. Check the continuity between the wire harness side connectors. See Fig 3 and Fig 4
. See THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR/ECM CONTINUITY CHECK table. If continuity is to specification, replace throttle position sensor. If continuity is not to specification, repair or replace harness and connector as necessary.
