Inspection Procedure

  1. Is DTC output? 

    Check DTC. See steps  b-  d under PRE-CHECK.

    1. YES: Repair circuit indicated by the output code  .
    2. NO: Go to next step  .

  2. Check that the ECU connectors are securely connected to the ECU  .
    1. YES: Go to next step  .
    2. NO: Connect the connector to the ECU  .
  3. Check voltage between terminals IGI (56) and GND (29, 83) of Skid Control ECU  .

    Disconnect the connector from the Skid Control ECU.

    1. Turn the ignition switch ON.
    2. Measure the voltage between terminals 56 and 29, 83 of Skid Control ECU harness side connector.

    OK: Voltage: 10 - 14 V  .

    1. OK: Go to next step  .
    2. NG: Check for open and short circuit in harness and connector between ECU-IG fuse and Skid Control ECU. See  HOW TO USE THE DIAGNOSTIC CHART AND INSPECTION PROCEDURE  .

  4. Check battery positive voltage  .

    Check the battery positive voltage.

    OK: Voltage: 10 - 14 V  .

    1. OK: Go to next step  .
    2. NG: Check and repair the charging system. See  CHARGING  .

  5. Check the Tc terminal circuit. See  Tc TERMINAL CIRCUIT   .
    1. OK: Go to next step  .
    2. NG: Repair or replace the Tc terminal circuit  .
  6. Check operation of the ABS warning light  .

    In case of using the TOYOTA hand-held tester  :

    1. Connect the hand-held tester to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch ON and push the hand-held tester main switch ON.
    3. Select the ACTIVE TEST mode on the hand-held tester.

    Check that "ON" and "OFF" of the ABS warning light can be shown on the combination meter by the hand-held tester.

    In case of not using the hand-held tester  :

    1. Disconnect Skid Control ECU connector.
    2. Using service wire, connect terminal WA (23) and GND1 (83) of Skid Control ECU connector.

    3. Turn the ignition switch ON.

    Check the ABS warning light goes off.

    1. OK: Check and replace Skid Control ECU  .
    2. NG: Go to next step  .

  7. Check ABS warning light  .

    See the combination meter troubleshooting. See TROUBLESHOOTING .

    1. OK: Go to next step  .
    2. NG: Repair or replace bulb or combination meter  .

  8. Check for open circuit in harness and connector between combination meter and Skid Control ECU. See  HOW TO USE THE DIAGNOSTIC CHART AND INSPECTION PROCEDURE  .
    1. OK: Check and replace Skid Control ECU  .
    2. NG: Repair or replace harness or connector  .
