WARNING: For warnings and procedures regarding vehicles equipped with Anti-Lock Brake Systems (ABS), see appropriate ANTI-LOCK article.
WARNING: On Prius, read service precautions before proceeding with any service procedure. See SERVICE PRECAUTIONS .

The hydraulic brake system uses a tandem master cylinder with vacuum power assist servo. Prius is equipped with a hydraulic power assist servo. Avalon is equipped with standard front and rear disc brakes. All other models are equipped with standard front disc and rear drum brakes. Optional rear disc brakes are available on Camry, Camry Solara and Celica.

A proportioning valve is used to regulate brake pressure between front and rear brakes. Rear drum brakes on all models are self-adjusting.

Parking brake lever mechanically activates rear brakes. A cable applies rear shoes. On Avalon, Camry, Camry Solara and Celica with rear disc brakes, parking brake is a mechanical drum brake design built into rear rotor assemblies.

On Avalon, Celica, Corolla, ECHO and Prius, ABS actuator is located on or near master cylinder. On Camry and Camry Solara, ABS actuator is located under right fender liner.
