WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 8 other vehicles, including the 2002 Toyota RAV4, 2002 Toyota Highlander, 2002 Toyota Camry, 2002 Lexus RX 300, and 2001 Toyota RAV4. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
The PNP switch detects the gearshift lever position and sends signals to the ECM. The ECM receives signals (PNP SW, REVERSE, DRIVE, 2ND and LOW) from the PNP switch. When the signal is not sent to the ECM from the PNP switch, the ECM judges that the gearshift lever is in the DRIVE position. DTC will set when ECM detects 2 or more circuits are on, vehicle has been driven for 30 seconds or more at 44 MPH or more, engine speed is 1500-2500 RPM and PNP switch is in the "N" position. Possible causes are:
- Short in PNP switch circuit.
- PNP switch malfunction.
- ECM malfunction.
