Diagnostic Procedure
WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 8 other vehicles, including the 2002 Toyota RAV4, 2002 Toyota Highlander, 2002 Toyota Camry, 2002 Lexus RX 300, and 2001 Toyota RAV4. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Disconnect the wiring harness to the transaxle. Measure the resistance between terminal SLT+ and SLT-. See Fig 1. Resistance should be 5.0-5.6 ohms at 68°F (20°C). If readings are within specification, go to next step. If not, go to step 3.
- Connect the transmission wire connector to the transaxle. Disconnect the ECM connector. Measure the resistance between terminals SLT+ and SLT- of ECM connector. Resistance should be 5.0-5.6 ohms at 68°F (20°C). If readings are within specification, replace the ECM. See appropriate REMOVAL, OVERHAUL & INSTALLATION article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. If readings are not within specification, repair or replace the wiring harness and connector.
- Remove the line pressure control solenoid (SLT). Applying 71 psi (5 kg/cm2 ) of compressed air, check that the solenoid valve does not leak the air. Also check that when battery voltage is supplied to the line pressure control solenoid (SLT), check that the valve opens. If both checks are okay, replace transaxle wiring harness and connector. If checks were not okay, replace the line control solenoid.
