Inspection Procedure

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 8 other vehicles, including the 2002 Toyota RAV4, 2002 Toyota Highlander, 2002 Toyota Camry, 2002 Lexus RX 300, and 2001 Toyota RAV4. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Disconnect the pattern select switch connector. While pressing the pattern control switch, check for continuity between terminals No. 1 and 2. See Figure. Release the pattern control switch and check for continuity. Continuity should exist when the switch is pressed, and not exist when the switch is released.

Connect battery voltage to terminal No. 4 and ground terminal No. 2 of the pattern select switch harness connector. The pattern select lamp in the instrument panel cluster should illuminate. If all tests were as described, go to next step. If not, replace pattern select switch.

  2. Check for an intermittent condition such as: Corroded terminals, poor grounds, loose connectors, cut or chaffed wiring or a pinched/damaged wiring harness. If a problem was found, repair or replace wiring harness and connector. If no problem was found, replace ECM. See appropriate REMOVAL, OVERHAUL & INSTALLATION article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
