Compression (Tacoma & 4Runner)

  1. Warm engine to normal operating temperature before checking the compression. Remove intake air connector for access to spark plugs. Intake air connector fits between air cleaner hose and throttle body.
  2. Disconnect electrical connectors at ignition coils. Remove spark plugs. Check engine mechanical condition with a compression gauge, vacuum gauge, or engine analyzer with throttle fully open. See engine analyzer manual for specific instructions. See COMPRESSION SPECIFICATIONS  table. Install and tighten spark plugs to 15 ft. lbs. (20 N.m).
