Spider Bearing: Reassembly
- Select spider bearing according to whether or not there is a drill mark on the yoke section. See SPIDER BEARING SELECTION TABLE andFig 1 .
- Apply MP grease to new spider and bearings. See Fig 2.
- Align the matchmarks on the yoke and shaft.
- Fit the spider into the yoke.
- Using the Universal Joint Bearing Remover & Replacer (09332-25010), install new bearings into the spider. See Fig 3.
- Using the Universal Joint Bearing Remover & Replacer (09332-25010), adjust both bearing so that the snap ring grooves are at maximum and equal widths. See Fig 4.
- Install snap rings of equal thickness which will allow 0-0.0020 in. (0-0.05 mm) axial play. See SNAP RING THICKNESS TABLE andFig 5 .
- Using a hammer, tap the yoke until there is no clearance between the bearing outer race and snap ring.
- Check that the spider bearing moves smoothly. See Fig 6.
- Check the spider bearing axial play. Maximum bearing axial play is 0.0020 in. (0.05 mm).
NOTE:
Be careful not to apply too much grease.
NOTE:
Do not reuse snap rings.
NOTE:
Install new spider bearings on the shaft side in the same procedure described above.
