Removal (MR2)
- Place reference marks on engine hood and hood hinges for reassembly reference. With assistance, remove engine hood. Remove suspension upper brace. Remove air cleaner cap and air hose assembly, air filter and air cleaner case.
- Remove battery carrier. Disconnect wire harness from transaxle. Disconnect backup light switch connector. Press projections on cable clip and disconnect control cables from transaxle.
- Remove control cable bracket. Disconnect ground cable. Remove 2 upper side transaxle mounting bolts. Remove No. 2 cylinder head cover. Disconnect engine ground cable. Install No. 1 Engine Hanger (12281-22021) and No. 2 Engine Hanger (12281-15040) using bolts (91512-B1016). Attach engine support.
- Remove left engine mount. Remove left engine mounting bracket. Raise and support vehicle. Remove front and rear engine under covers. Drain transaxle.
- Remove engine left lower cover. Drain transaxle fluid. Remove front wheels. Remove axle shafts from transaxle. See appropriate article in DRIVE AXLES.
- Using a transmission jack, raise transaxle slightly. Disconnect clutch release cylinder. Remove front engine mounting bracket. Support clutch release cylinder and bracket assembly out of the way. Remove front engine mount. Remove starter connector and starter.
- Remove rear engine mount through-bolt and mounting insulator. Remove 4 lower side transaxle mounting bolts. Slightly lower left side of engine and remove transaxle. Place reference mark on clutch cover and flywheel for reassembly reference.
- Alternately loosen clutch cover bolts until spring tension is released. Remove clutch cover and clutch disc. Remove clutch release fork and clutch release bearing as an assembly from transaxle (if necessary). See Figure. Disassemble clutch release fork and clutch release bearing (if necessary).
