Installation (Celica 1.8L)
- Install and tighten flywheel bolts in a crisscross pattern to specification in several passes. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . When all bolts have been tightened to specification, tighten bolts in sequence an additional 90 degrees.
- Install clutch disc in clutch cover. Ensure clutch disc is installed in the correct direction. Align reference marks on clutch cover and flywheel. Install clutch disc and clutch cover on flywheel.
- Using a Clutch Aligner (09301-00210), center clutch disc on flywheel. Install and tighten clutch cover bolts in sequence to specification. See Figure. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- After clutch cover installation, using a dial indicator, check diaphragm spring tip alignment. If diaphragm spring tip alignment is greater than .020" (.50 mm), adjust clutch cover spring tips using Tip Adjustment Tool (09333-00013).
- Apply molybdenum disulfide grease to clutch release fork-to-pivot stud contact surfaces, hub on clutch release bearing and clutch disc splines. Install clutch release fork and clutch release bearing on transaxle (if removed).
- To install remaining components, reverse removal procedure. Install NEW exhaust pipe gaskets. Line up transaxle input shaft and temporarily tighten transaxle mounting bolts. Ensure transaxle-to-engine mounting surfaces are flush before tightening mounting bolts to specification.
- Install subframe and lower suspension arms. Install but do not tighten mounting bolt/nuts. After all bolt/nuts are installed, tighten in reverse order indicated to specification. See Figure. Tighten remaining bolt/nuts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Fill transaxle with 75W-90 gear oil with API GL-4 or GL-5 rating. Align front wheels.
