Drive Shaft
- Using a dial indicator, check the runout of the drive and intermediate shafts. See Fig 1.
- If runout is greater than maximum, replace the shaft. Maximum runout is 0.031 in. (0.8 mm).
- Inspect spider bearings for wear or damage. Using a dial indicator, check the spider bearing axial play by turning the yoke while holding the shaft tightly. Maximum bearing axial play is 0.0020 in. (0.05 mm). If necessary, replace the drive shaft.
- Inspect the rear drive shaft for wear or damage. See Fig 3.
- Inspect double cardan joint for wear or damage. If problem is found, replace the drive shaft assembly.
NOTE:
Double cardan joint is used on rear drive shafts.
